NEWS RELEASE

Baltimore, Md – May 17, 2007 – Planit, the Baltimore-based marketing communications agency, announced today it has been selected by the City, in partnership with The Baltimore Community Foundation, to create the marketing campaign portion of the “Cleaner and Greener” initiative.

According to Planit president, Matt Doud, the agency has a personal commitment to seeing that the Cleaner and Greener campaign succeeds as Downtown Baltimore has been home to the agency for close to 15 years. “We are excited to be working with the mayor on this initiative,” said Doud. “Our experience with social marketing campaigns that motivate behavioral change tells us that this campaign has enormous potential for the city.”

The estimated $2 million two-year contract, which will be largely, if not entirely, privately funded, is part of a long-term campaign to change the public’s perception of littering and the behaviors that contribute to litter problems.

“We were looking for an agency to create a message that will be lasting, behavior changing, positive, and action-oriented,” said Mike Hankin, Baltimore Community Foundation board member and president and CEO of Brown Advisory. “Planit’s proposal encompassed all of these elements and resonated with every member of our [Clean and Green Campaign] committee.”

Planit will play a pivotal role in all aspects of the campaign from creative development and implementation of a multi-media campaign, to public relations and fundraising support.

“This campaign will call on each of us to take personal responsibility for keeping our home – the City of Baltimore – clean and green. Individual responsibility does not, and cannot, stop at the doorstep of our houses, our offices, or our places of worshi,” said Mayor Dixon. “We are excited to be working with Planit to create a campaign designed to take this message to everyone who calls Baltimore home, because a cleaner, greener city is a safer and healthier city.”

Details regarding the public awareness portion of the Cleaner and Greener initiative will be announced this summer. The contract for the marketing communications services was publicly advertised in an RFQ issued immediately following the Mayor’s announcement of the “Cleaner and Greener” initiative on March 9, 2007. The RFQ was open to all agencies located within Baltimore City.
