BALTIMORE, MD – As Your Public Radio Corporation, a Maryland non-profit, community-owned broadcasting company, continues its push to become the leading statewide news organization, it will be receiving help from Baltimore-based marketing communications agency, Planit. The corporation, which is the licensee for WYPR, recently signed Planit as its agency of record.
“What WYPR provides its listeners is much more than news of the day’s or week’s events – it truly informs and enriches people’s lives through programming that introduces listeners to everything from new music to new cuisine, and connects us with communities and cultures around the state as well as around the globe,” said Planit president Matt Doud. “Being a part of an initiative to make this accessible to people throughout the state makes this a very rewarding project for us.”
Planit will be creating public relations and advertising campaigns for the station. Headquartered in Baltimore, Your Public Radio Corporation broadcasts on 88.1 FM in Baltimore and Frederick and 106.9 in Ocean City and the Eastern Shore. These three stations combined cover the airwaves across 98 percent of the state from Hagerstown to Pocomoke City
“There are many, many people who are hungry for news,” said Anthony S. Brandon, president and CEO of Your Public Radio Corporation and general manager of WYPR-FM. “With the decline in news coverage in communities throughout the U.S., we’ve found that there’s a growing need for programming such as ours.”
WYPR produces 22 original Maryland-centric programs on topics ranging from politics to regional arts and cuisine. Among the titles: “Maryland Morning”, “The Marc Steiner Show”, “Inside Maryland Politics”, “The Signal” and “Radio Kitchen.”
“WYPR has incredibly solid programming, and we expect it to be core to our marketing strategy for the station,” said Doud. “We’re confident that together we will trigger real growth in listenership for the station.”
